What is NTHS?
NTHS is a Scandinavian congress where marine technology students from all over Scandinavia send members of their delegation to meet once a year in one of the four host countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark) to share knowledge and to visit companies that are connected the marine industry for the host nation at that time. The congress lasts one week and is a great opportunity to expand the network of marine technology students in Scandinavia.
During the conference, students visit with multiple maritime companies while also meeting other students from other delegations. The week ends with a formal banquet including the NTHS participants, companies and past NTHS participants (‘old timers’).
Nordens Tekniska Högskolors Skeppsbyggare (NTHS) is a conference during which the national shipping and shipbuilding industries are showcased to 5 nordic delegations of maritime and naval students. It has been organised every year since 1948 by one of its 5 student delegations:
- NTNU, Trondheim, Norway (Mannhullet)
- DTU, Denmark, Copenhagen (Null-kryds)
- CTH, Gothenburg, Sweden (Föreningen Chalmers Skeppsbyggare)
- Aalto, Helsinki, Finland (Laivanrakentajain Kerho)
- KTH, Stockholm, Sweden (Kungliga Skeppsällskapet)
NTHS has evolved to become a valuable tradition and help create a community that we want to carry on. The aim of the conference is to keep a continuous contact between the industry and the students. The days of the congress are set-aside in company visits, presentations and networking events. The Banquet, at the end of the congress is traditionally an opportunity to meet the NTHS alumni.
NTHS is definitely one of the most important events for the students to discover the industry, build their network and broaden their horizons.
